ON THE BENCH / 3D STUDY 09 · FROM VIDEO

Calcite,
Cave-in-Rock.

A mass of pale yellow calcite crystals with patches of dark, metallic sphalerite.
Its cloth label, typed, reads “… Sphalerite · Cave-in-Rock · Illinois”: the Illinois–Kentucky fluorspar district. The first line is not legible on video.

Scan info 360°

Full 360°, from video. The specimen turned on a turntable while the phone filmed three orbits, then it was turned over for four more. Each turntable clip was cut to one full turn and the sharpest frame in every 50th of it kept, about one every 7°; frames where the specimen ran off the edge were left out. The two halves were joined by shape before training. Detail is softest where the halves meet, and softer than the video.
